How to protect your Instagram from hackers

PART 1: How my IG was Hacked and How to Protect Yourself and Your Account so this Doesn’t Happen to You
This weekend my IG was hacked and hijacked. This is probably every business owner’s worst nightmare and while I never believed it could happen to me, it did this weekend. It is REALLY important that I share with you what happened, how you can protect yourself and in the second video I will share, how I got my account back (I hope you never need that, but just in case.)

Here are three TOP LINE tips for protecting yourself and your business from Instagram hackers:

  1. Make sure that your phone number is not publicly displayed. This is how the hackers got to me. They had my number from my profile (which was set up nearly a decade ago…I totally forgot!) I would even consider removing your email associated with the account from public view. Honestly I think if someone wants to find you, they will.  They can also DM you at any time.

  2. Set up two-factor authentication. You can do this by going into your settings and clicking SECURITY. When you set this up it makes it so that whenever someone logs in from a new computer you get notified and they have to verify before logging in. I thought I had this set up…but apparently I didn’t.

  3. JUST KNOW that Instagram doesn’t have protocols where you have to send things to people in order to make things happen.  So if someone suggests that you give them something so that they can do XYZ (in this case it was to get verified)…it is likely a scam.

Please feel free to share this video as everyone who has an account can benefit from the tips I share to protect yourself. The biggest eye opener for me: Meta/Facebook has ZERO customer service around this. So it is important that you do what you can to make sure that this never happens to you.
