5 Easy Ways to Create More Engagement on Social Media

You've heard me say it before, and you will hear me say it time and time again. You have to be SOCIAL on social media. But you may be wondering...HOW? It's important to show up and create conversation in order to generate more engagement. The more engagement you have (on any platform) the more success you will have there too.

If daily feels like too much, start slow. Every day do ONE of these things. Work up to it being natural just to show up through these strategies to generate more engagement.

Check out this to-do list for your social media strategy to generate more engagement.

  1. Make sure every post not only brings value, but also has a CALL TO ACTION. If you are not asking your community to do something, what's the point? Get your community used to conversing with you.

    Some of my favorite CTAs:

✔️ Ask a question and then "Comment below with..."

✔️ Click the link in my bio for XYZ

✔️ Drop a (insert your favorite emoji) if you agree.

✔️ Double tap if you…

2. Try to like and comment on all the comments people leave you. The more engagement you're given, the more you should be dishing out. Think about it. If you have ten comments on a post and you respond to each of them, you all of a sudden have 20. Let your community know that you see them and RESPOND to them.

3. When someone new follows you, send them a DM and say hi. Strike up a conversation. BONUS TIP: Do you know that you can SAVE REPLIES in your settings? This makes it super easy to send out DMs or replies to common questions or actions.

4. Follow hashtags that are meaningful to your business (just like you do accounts.) Can you guess which hashtags I follow? When you follow a new account, reach out to THEM and tell them something you think is awesome about what it is they are sharing or doing.

5. If you're chatting back and forth over DM, leave a VOICE MESSAGE! How much more personal is that??? BONUS, it's also a lot easier if you're out and about and don't want to stop to type a message.

BONUS TIP: My favorite tip that many social media experts have given over the years has been to “warm up” Instagram or Facebook before you make a post. What does this mean? This means that 10-15 minutes before you are going to post something, go on the platform and be ACTIVE. Let them know that you are THERE. Like things, comment on things, answer your DMs. It is a GREAT time of day to engage. That way they know you are a real person when you go to post. I was told recently that if you go back an hour later and engage with the initial comments on a post, that is great for your engagement as well.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed by this---BUT community and engagement are just as important as posting. Written out, this looks like a lot. But truthfully, it's something that you can do while sitting on the couch and watching TV at night. Once you have it down, you can simply devote 30-45 minutes a day to make it happen.
