5 Rules When it Comes to Your Mission Statement

Whether you are a large company, big business, product based, service oriented or a personal brand, one thing that holds true for any business.... ...HAVE A CLEAR MISSION YOU WORK TOWARDS EACH AND EVERY DAY.

This week on Dear FoundHer… Episode 63, Sascha Mayer, Founder of Mamava, discusses how her company began with her mission, and that mission guided her every decision in creating her product. Ultimately, her product solved a key problem, one she was looking to fix through the mission she started with.

Take a look at these key reminders when it comes to your mission. Most of us have a mission when it comes to our business, but have you written it down? Do you look to your mission when making decisions on how to move your business forward?

  1. Define your mission—-write it down. Your mission should clearly define and outline your business as well as your goals and your strategy to reach your goals. This way there is no question about what you are working towards.

  2. Let your mission shape your strategy. When you are determining how to accomplish the goals set forth, let your mission help decide how it is that you are going to move forward. If a strategy isn't aligned with the mission at hand, it probably isn't the right one.

  3. Hire people who subscribe to your mission. When hiring for my first company, four key hires over the nine years were people who came to me and said: I believe in what you are doing and I want to be a part of it. Each of these amazing employees were with me and my company for over five years and were instrumental in my company's success.

  4. Build a product that serves your mission. Use your mission as your North Star when guiding product development based decisions. Listen to Episode 63 of Dear FoundHer... Sascha Mayer talks about having a mission first and then building her product to solve the problem at hand. This is a powerful concept, especially when you have a specific goal you want to achieve.

  5. Don’t compromise your mission. Stay true to what you are doing and don't compromise the ideals you set forth through your mission. Whether for monetary or some other form of short term gain, once you compromise your integrity, it is really hard to go back. Stay the course, stay true to what you are doing and know that success will come. It just might not be overnight.

I would love to hear your mission. Feel free to drop it in the comments below or email it to me. Once you put it out there, you are definitely more accountable. For more tips to build and monetize your community to grow your bottom line, follow @lindsaypinchuk on Instagram.
